We have tried to make logging into a computer as simple as possible while still maintaining a secure network.
- Each person has a unique username. Staff usernames consist of the first initial of the first name, and the first seven letters of the last name. John Doe = jdoe, Larry Everyone =leveryon.
- Students are reversed: seven letters last name, then first initial of first name, doej, everyonl.
- Netware uses a catalog or an index to resolve usernames with full account information. This means for the most part you only need to put in your username in the field.
- On occasion you will run into a problem machine, or we will have network problems which will require you to use what is known as 'full context'. If jdoe is a teacher at Warner Middle School, he would log in like this:
jdoe.staff.wms.xenia [username.catagory.worksite.network]
- At the first login, new users should leave the password field blank.
- When OK is clicked, an screen will pop up asking if they wish to create a new password.
- Answer Yes and create a password in the field(s)
- The password can be anything you wish, as long as it is at least 5 (five) characters in length. There is a maximum length, but I strongly recommend you keep your password between 5 and 10 characters.
- Passwords should not be easily 'guessed' by being closely associated with you or your interests, (If your house and your car are both painted Orange and Brown, then anything related the the Cleveland Browns is probably not a good password).
- You can use common words, but replace a letter or two with numbers, E=3, o=0, L=1, etc.
