Celebrating the science of agriculture with more than 500 fifth grade students throughout Xenia Community Schools, members of the Greene County FFA recently hosted their fourth annual “Blue and Gold Agriculture Day” at the Greene County Exposition and Fair Center, Xenia.
The mission of the Blue & Gold Agriculture Day is to educate the consumers of tomorrow about Ohio’s largest industry--- agriculture.
Sponsors of the event included Bob Evans Farms, Dave Campbell Crop Insurance, Docton Animal Clinic, Greene County Agricultural Society, Greene County Career Center, Greene County Farm Bureau, Greene County FFA Alumni, Greene County Soil and Water District, Harner Farm Drainage, King Family Farm, Laurelville Grain, R.E. Skilling Supplies, Truepointe and Veterinarian Associates, says Xenia High School agriculture teacher and FFA advisor Matt Smith.
All fifth grade students in the Xenia school district and St. Brigid School learned where their food comes from and the importance of agriculture; participated in hands-on activities showing the diversity of agriculture; gained an interest and appreciation for Greene County FFA; and learned components of the fifth-grade science curriculum.
A Xenia High Student and member of the Greene County FFA led each session.
