Xenia Community Schools/Ohio Department of Education celebrate school bus drivers

The Ohio Department of Education and Xenia Community Schools (XCS) asks everyone to celebrate school bus drivers and the vital role they play in transporting students safely to school...and home again. National School Bus Safety Week was officially observed October 18 to 22 but plays a vital role in the Xenia school district every week of the year.

Did you know:

  • Xenia schools has 42 full-time bus drivers, ten full-time special needs assistants, seven sub drivers, three mechanics, three office personnel and one fuel/lot attendant.
  • Xenia Community Schools includes 126 square miles within its district boundaries.
  • Xenia school bus drivers cover 3,800 miles each and every day---a total of 684,000 miles each year.
  • Approximately 2,200 students are transported by Xenia school drivers each day.
  • Xenia school bus drivers covered an additional 37,736 miles last year in field trips.

“Xenia is very fortunate to have the dedicated team of school bus drivers that provide safe transportation to our students each and every day,” says XCS Transportation Coordinator Laura Smith.  “Xenia has one of the largest geographic districts in the state and we pride ourselves on our safety record.”
