Proving that science can be exciting, colorful, fun, cool, dramatic and even a little smelly at times, students in the Xenia High School (XHS) Chemistry Club recently visited the district’s elementary schools to perform their Physical and Chemical Change Show.
Incorporating classroom activities and a school-wide assembly complete with stink bombs and exploding balloons, the students were lead by XHS Science Teacher and Chemistry Club Advisor Bill Richey.
One demonstration known as Elephant Toothpaste was actually named by a Cox Elementary Schools student in the 1990s and is now featured in schools across the country as a result of Richey’s demonstration at a national conference.
Richey and his students have been visiting the elementary schools for year to encourage and excite young scholars about science.
