Message from the Principal

Under the Ohio Department of Education, three Xenia elementary schools were awarded a School Improvement Grant (SIG) through a competitive process. The three schools, Cox, McKinley, and Shawnee, now Spring Hill, demonstrated the greatest need for the funds and the strongest commitment to use the funds. The School Improvement Grant has provided resources to raise student achievement. The School Improvement Grant funding is limited to a three-year period. We are in the second year.

The SIG goals and strategies are centered on increasing student achievement in the areas of language arts and math. The plan was designed to implement and expand the district’s comprehensive literacy and math programs that impact practices across all grade levels.

Through the School Improvement Grant, Cox Elementary was able to hire a highly qualified RTI Coach, a Math Coach, and a Technology Teacher. In addition, SIG funds allowed for increasing highly qualified professional development activities for all staff members and for extended learning opportunities for all students.

The use of SIG funds has allowed for a comprehensive plan of continuous improvement in the areas of Response to Intervention, differentiated instruction, full implementation of research-based instructional programs, computer assisted instruction, data analysis, school/community culture, and family support/school connections.

Thank you for your continuous support.

Sincerely,
Ms. Lisa Peterson
Principal
