Superintendent Weekly Update

I hope that this weekly update finds you in good health and having had a chance to relax over the weekend with your families.  The time is growing near (15 days) for the PARRC Assessments and I know that staff and students are working hard preparing for them.  Thank you for all that you do for kids and our entire Xenia community.

Financial Report Card- In August the state releases the "Academic" Report Card as it relates to student achievement.  Last Friday, the state released its first ever "Financial" Report Card for our school district.  The news is very impressive.  During the 2012-2013 school year our district put 59% of our general fund dollars toward classroom instruction.  For the 2013-2014 school year the district spent almost 71% of its general fund budget on classroom instruction.  The generally accepted rule is that school districts should try to approach the 65% figure.  This was an increase of 12% in one year.  The state also released the per pupil expenditure costs.  For 2013-2014 we spent $8,441 per student which was $900 less than we spent the year before and $1,665 less than the state average per pupil cost.  And at the same time our Value Added (progress) rating went from a C to an A.  Kudos to everyone associated with Xenia Community schools.  This is fantastic news.
