From the Desk of Ted Holop
Xenia High School is an incredible place to work and attend as a student. The diversity among our staff and students enriches the experience of this comprehensive high school. A typical walk through the hallways helps me understand how important a high school is to the community and to society. Parents and tax payers in this community expect several essential items: safety of the students, a strong curriculum, and the students to be treated fairly and with respect. We strive for that every day and reflect on how we can make XHS even better. Being a student at XHS means more than getting a quality education; it means preparing for the “real” world. Walking side-by-side with classmates who are handicapped, a valedictorian, an orphan, or a parent occurs daily. XHS provides our teenagers the necessary time and experiences to develop a respect for different people and groups. It has been a challenge to foster improvement as a school while we have been eliminating positions because of the financial situation in the district. As a district, we are cutting more than $5,000,000 for next school year. Xenia High School will be greatly impacted. However, it is essential that parents know we will maintain the integrity of this comprehensive high school. Students will have options outside the core to choose from, including fine and performing arts, family life, information technology, industrial technology and foreign language. These experiences are essential to produce well rounded students. An extensive curriculum audit has taken place to analyze what we offer students. We continue to strengthen our partnership with Greene County Career Center to provide Career Technical fields to allow our students to be competitive in job markets and university programs upon graduation. Due to the cuts, course registration has been moved back this year to give parents and students an accurate list of courses to choose. As employees of Xenia Community Schools, we are here to provide a high-quality educational experience for your children. As partners in this critical work, we appreciate your input and support. Please contact me with any concerns, both positive and negative, in regard to Xenia High School. Sincerely,
