Bolka Signs with Capital
The Xenia High School Boys Basketball Program is proud to
announce the signing of Senior Post Player Andrew Bolka, to play basketball the next four
years at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. Andrew weighed several options and has a
made this decision very carefully. Andrew is the son of Tom and Tammy Bolka, and has one
brother Alex, a seventh grader at Central Middle School.
Andrew has played golf, basketball, and baseball for four years here
at Xenia, and is one of our very few four year letter winners in Varsity Boys Basketball.
He is a member of National Honor Society, and has decided to study Physical Therapy while at
Capital. He will play for Head Coach Damon Goodwin and will play either the small or power
forward position. Andrew is a great example of hard work in the classroom, the weight room,
and his chosen field of play. He has put countless hours in honing his skills and lifting
weights that have allowed this proud day to become a reality. He will ultimately be successful
at Capital with this same approach.
Andrew was a unanimous Great Western Ohio Conference South Team
Selection this past season. He was chosen as a District 9 All Star and played April 1st in
an all star game in Piqua scoring 6 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Andrew was an
Honorable Mention Southwest Ohio selection this season as well. He is very well respected
by other players and coaches in our league both as a player and competitor. His representation
of the Xenia Boys Basketball Program is something to be admired and copied by those that follow
him.
Andrew was 5th in scoring this past season in the GWOC South,
leading the Buccaneers with 13.1 points per game. He was the leading rebounder in the
entire South Division with 9.5 rebounds per game. Andrew scored in double figures in 17
games this season and recorded 10 double-doubles (double figures in scoring and rebounding).
Andrew walked off his home court for the last time with maybe his best overall effort, scoring
19 points and hauling down 22 rebounds in an upset win over eventual league champion Fairborn
on Senior Night. It is a night neither he nor his family will soon forget.

Coach Kanemoto Reports on GWOC Bowling Season
Great year as a whole. Here’s a recap of the conclusion of
another GWOC season for the Xenia Buccaneers.
Boys: This was a re-building year (so to speak). With only 2
returning bowlers with Varsity experience the boys finished 4th in the South Division
and 15th overall. They finished with a 7-15 overall and 3-7 conference record.
Finished 13th at the GWOC Conference Tournament. This year’s team was led by Sophomore
Chad Barringer who finished 12th in the South Division with a 197 average and Junior
Patrick Gwin who finished 13th with a 195 average.
Next year’s outlook: With six returning bowlers the team is
poised to make a serious run in 2011-2012 season.
Girls: The team has taken one step closer to ascending to the
top level of the GWOC and State Girls Bowling programs. This year we defeated conference
rival Fairborn and finished second with a conference record of 7-3 and 11-11 overall.
The girls are starting to believe they can win and what it feels like to win…I think
they like it! The conference tournament was a huge success! After the qualifying
round (three regular games) the girls were sitting in first place, not bad for a 9th seed!
However, with a lack of depth we fell back into 6th place, we were still the highest
finisher from the South Div. Here we had quite a few highlights, Sophomore Nicole
Seibel was recognized as the individual champion with an astounding 696 series!
To highlight how impressive this was…second place finisher had a 612, she also had
the highest total score for the entire tournament boys and girls!
Conference awards: Nicole Seibel also was selected to the
conference first team and South Div. Athlete of the Year! Freshmen Stephanie Wuebben
and Taylor Strunk were also recognized as second team performers.
Next year’s outlook: Outlook is very bright! With a very young
core of returnees and a larger pool of up and coming athletes next year will be very
interesting to say the least! We should be a serious for the GWOC Conference Title.
Only time will tell…
On a side note, we had another Coach of the year selection…how lucky can a guy get?
Bowling

Followed by Patrick Gwin with a 212 and 247 game, also with Cody Barnett's season high game of 221. The boys improved their record to 6-9 and 2-1 in conference.

Athletic Department Announces Corporate Sponsorship
Program
The Xenia HS Athletic Department discontinued printing athletic programs. “Athletic programs have run their course and do not
sell as well as they once did,” explained Xenia HS Athletic Director
Kevin Kerr. To give local businesses access to the large Xenia Schools’
athletic community it is announcing a Corporate Sponsorship Program.
The program offers two ways for local businesses to get
their names out to the Xenia Athletic community. First, is through a
banner program. The banner will be 4 foot by 4 foot printed with the
company’s name, logo, and phone number. The banners will be done in
heavy vinyl with a white background and royal blue letters.
During the winter season, the banners will be mounted
in the XHS gym. During the spring season the business owner can choose
to have their banner mounted on the outfield fence in either the
baseball or softball fields. During the fall sports season, the banners
will be mounted on the fencing at the top of the home and visitors
bleachers at Cox Field. “The banners will give local companies great
visibility to all in attendance at Xenia High School athletic events,”
says Kerr.
The second way for businesses to get their names out is
by being listed on the Athletic Department website. The listing will be
linked to the business’ website if desired. “The Athletic Department
website at www.bucsports.info is
very popular. It has the latest team schedules, team pages, and
announcements on event time changes. The site has only been up since
last March and averages over 3,000 hits per month. During the fall
season the site averaged over 5,000 hits per month.” said Kerr.
Banners cost $250 the first year, and can be renewed
for $150 each year after that. The website listing is $200 and if a
business buys a banner the website listing is half off. “All of the
money raised from the Corporate Sponsorship Program will go directly
toward helping support our Xenia High School athletes and teams,” said
Kerr. Anyone interested in being a part of the program should call
Kevin Kerr at 562-9672.
