| So, you
want to be a college athlete. That’s great! Now, you have to learn the
process to actually become a college athlete.
First, an athlete
must understand the easiest way to get a scholarship is to attend class,
study and get good grades. There are significantly more academic
scholarships available than athletic scholarships. Additionally,
an athlete with top grades is much more interesting to a coach than an
athlete with poor ones.
The National College Athletic
Association (NCAA), National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics
(NAIA), and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA)
have developed processes that ensure that all participating colleges
and universities and their student-athletes are competing on a “level
playing field,” and that all prospective athletes are academically
eligible to participate.
This guide will help you navigate the
process of picking the right school and then getting recruited.
Recruiting today is as much about what you do to let prospective schools
and coaches know you are interested than sitting around waiting for a
phone call.
